I wrote this short story last night for Storytime at one of the branch libraries I work for. It’s loosely based on something one of my best friends had told me about why fire fighters don’t rescue cats. I was doing Rescue Heroes and Divine Kitties as the themes for Storytime this week and thought it would fit in well.

A Story With No Ending

This story’s always told through time,
when a girl meets a boy.
Stars start dancing in her eyes and
her heart fills with hope.
I’m no stranger to this story,
it seems to be my fate.
Of falling for the men who only want escape.

It’s an unrequited love,
a story with no ending.
I’m trying to forget,
all these strong feelings.
I’m trying very hard, but you’re not leaving.

It seems just like yesterday,
when you first said hello.
But many many years have past,
and it’s time to let go.
You’ve made it very clear that
you don’t want me in your life.
So why are you still standing in the door?

It’s an unrequited love,
a story with no ending.
I’m trying to forget,
all these strong feelings.
I’m trying very hard, but you’re not leaving.

I saw you at the bar today,
flirting with the girls.
That charming slow smile and dimples,
always stop my world.
You caught my eye and winked at me,
what am I supposed to do?
I smile back while my heart starts to break.

It’s an unrequited love,
a story with no ending.
I’m trying to forget,
all these strong feelings.
I’m trying very hard, but you’re not leaving.

Stop playing games with me!
You either want me or you don’t.
Walk out that door right now!
Right now!
RIGHT NOW!

It’s an unrequited love,
a story with no ending.
I’m trying to forget,
all these strong feelings.
I’m trying very hard, but you’re not leaving.
